Italian Wines for Thanksgiving Time

Branch out from your typical go-to wines and pair your Thanksgiving feast with something familiar and delicious - whimsical enough that your dotty Aunt Kathy will appreciate it, but thoughtful enough that anyone who really loves wine will be satisfied. 

RED: The first choice is solid ― possibly brilliant: Our high-acid, low-tannin 2012 Barbera; with bright cherry and cranberry flavors over rich spices, our Barbera can do right by almost all the exuberant side dishes a turkey requires.  Our second choice is our smooth-textured 2012 Tesoro; our Super-Tuscan style blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.  With nice supple tannins and rich flavors of cherry, cassis, and roasted plum; this versatile crowd-pleasing wine is sure to be a hit at your table.  Our last selection (and Michael Muscardini's personal pairing selection) is our 2014 Sangiovese from Alice's Vineyard; a sweet little vineyard perfectly planted to grow Sangiovese like the great Brunnelo’s of Montalcino, Italy.  With generous flavors of plum and allspice, vibrant acidity, firm tannins, and a lovely texture; this classic style of Sangiovese perfectly pairs with wide-range of dishes that will be served at your Thanksgiving feast.

WHITE: This can be a puzzler, especially if you’re considering a buttery, oaky Chardonnay.  And the trouble with the "I'll drink what I like no matter what's on the table" approach is that there's just so much on the table ― herby gravy, tangy cranberry sauce, savory dressing.... All of that will kill an oaky Chardonnay, even if it could stand tall with bare turkey.  For this reason, we recommend serving our 2016 Rosato di Tempranillo as a white wine alternative your white wine lovers will still happily enjoy.  The tangy acidity, touch of residual sugar, and dry finish make this wine a perfect pairing for your Thanksgiving feast.
