“Messages from the Sky” is an exhibition of abstract photographs drawn from the details of a very old piece of airplane wreckage that was found on Mt Tamalpais in 2002. The exhibition includes not only photographs, but also a part of the fuselage that was found on the site. Aviation experts think the plane was probably from the 1940’s. Scheid created the images, made the archival prints and handmade their frames with reclaimed redwood from an area near the plane wreck. The textures, shapes and patinas etched onto the surface of the plane from its fall from the sky after years of basking in the rain and sunlight, inspire the imagination of the viewer. Many of the photos were made into composites that create a beautiful mandala image. Rob’s work explores how the human experience connects the natural world with the inner world of the heart and mind.
Scheid has spent most of his life with a camera in his hand. Moving from a successful career as a Bay Area commercial photographer, to a focus on fine art photography. He has been doing this for twenty years during which time he has had several solo and group exhibitions. For the last ten years, he has worked out of his wine country studio near Sebastopol. More of his work can be seen on his website at: robscheidphotography.com
Join us Friday, April 26th for an artist reception from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM accompanied with wine by the glass, light charcuterie, and a chance to meet the artist, Rob Scheid.
